Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8, 2011 Running Back Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8: #1) DeMarco Murray (RB - Dallas Cowboys)*GEM: What I saw from this young rookie from Oklahoma on Sunday blew me away. I watched all of Emmitt Smith’s games in his hay-day with the ‘Boys, and Murray managed to out-do any of his single game performances. He is for real, and passed the “eye test” with flying colors. You could see his bursts of speed and flashes of power mixed with his elusiveness. All I can think of is he is kind-of a Marion Barber III / Felix Jones hybrid. I know he was facing a leagues-worst rushing defense, but so was Arian Foster last year when he demolished the Indianapolis Colts. What did he go on to do, I forget? Oh, he led me to a fantasy football championship and won the NFL’s league rushing title. Murray should be your #1 priority (if you need a RB), since he will be facing an Eagles team that is allowing the 4th most points per game to fantasy RBs (24.8)*. Also Felix Jones has been ruled out for that match-up. #2) Ryan Torain (RB - Washington Redskins): The Redskins are offering pickups at 3 skill positions this week, QB, WR, and RB. I am most comfortable by far with their RB offering. Tim Hightower is likely out for the year with a torn ACL (from what I am hearing), and Torain has proven to be a monster on the ground in the past when healthy. It does not matter if he is facing the best, or the worst rush defense in the league. He is just difficult (almost impossible) to tackle. He is healthy now, and he faces a Bills defense week 8 that is allowing 22.8 points per game to running backs, which is the 6th most in the league. I foresee the Torain Train steaming forward full speed week 8 and for further weeks to come. Ryan Torain is a strong buy here!
